So any of them – Boden, take this vile fat old traitor Boden, what has it proved, other than it is a vile fat old traitor. On no account must it be expected to accede to the reality of the society it lives in, not least its diversity, that there are many many people who neither share nor like its beliefs, or indeed it, it being a cowardly thuggish sleazy psychopathic traitor, and most people actually not being over-enamoured of cowardly thuggish sleazy psychopathic traitors (you have to be deeply religious to like such people and as I so frequently point out over half the people in this country have no religion at all) and of course everyone is adamant that it need not be expected to accept democracy, the governing system of the country is simply non-existent because a nutter denies it, and I’m supposed to be terrified, to crawl to it, it has absolute power, accept it is the absolute ruler of England whom none may gainsay. Some sort of mad sick animal that clearly resides at the bottom of a hole in the ground, totally divorced from the country around it, that is incapable of speech and reason, that cannot learn, that is a psychopath and a traitor and because the foul brute has achieved standing crowing over my broken body and my wrecked life, I’m supposed to be frightfully impressed, awe-struck. How do you make out the fact that this nutter freak is blind and deaf to the world around is my problem? Or that of any other normal person who crosses its path.
Why don’t you take it out for the day? There are many moots I’m sure the Pagan Federation would be happy to guide you. Or perhaps a few National Secular Society meetings would broaden its horizons. Perhaps you could organize parties, for all the psychopathic, illiterate, ignorant, irrational, cowardly, dishonest and impenetrable.
4. Arætí (Arete, Ἀρετή)
The endeavor to achieve virtue is how we try to put our religion into practice. Virtue in Greek is arætí. There are different understandings of the word. It has been translated as “excellence.” We are not talking about the "pursuit of glory," as many people seem to define it. Nor are we looking for an Aristotelian list of various excellences, although such a journey may help in our pursuit. Arætí is not quite the same as the Latin virtus, which is more virility and strength.
Arætí is the source from which all the various virtues or excellences are generated. Plátohn says that that virtue is a type of harmony of soul, a type of consent between one's emotions and one's reason [1]. Plátohn identifies four principal manifestations of arætí: courage (andreia, ἀνδρεία), temperance (sohphrosýni, σωφροσύνη), justice (dikaiosýni, δικαιοσύνη), and wisdom (phrónisis, φρόνησις and sophía, σοφία). They are known as the four cardinal virtues of classical antiquity [4]. Compassion (ἔλεος) is actually the most important virtue, but without courage, temperance, justice, and wisdom, compassion is not attainable. Compassion is the providence of Zefs. It is what he means for us and what he desires his creatures to emulate.
The achievement of arætí is putting one's own ambitions aside in favor of those which reflect the natural laws. Thus, the acquisition of arætí necessarily involves the development of perspective in relationship to one's place in the Kózmos. This realization must be put into action, which has the effect of developing the human conscience. The realization of personal arætí is a function of the progress of the soul. Without virtue, knowledge of the facts and figures of Ællinismόs is of minor significance.
Or you could read up on Hellenismos
There is a famous statement concerning the Gods: All the happy deathless Gods are free, and they desire this freedom (ἐλευθερία) for all beings; therefore, they never violate our freedom and they never impose their will. Further, it is said that it is best to imitate the Gods and not impose our will over others. Coupled with freedom is tolerance (καρτερία), which is a great hallmark of our religion.
http://www.hellenicgods.org/hellenismos
Yes. Yes, you are ridiculous, aren’t you.
Yeah, yeah, I know, I must be beaten and brutalized and all but destroyed until I learn to take delusional and psychopathic traitors seriously. Especially doubtless if their names are David Linch, Tony Goldstone and Robert Naylor, all cavorting frantically over their supposed right to exercise unaccountable and so criminal power, prove impervious to fact and reason and morality, overthrow democracy, crawl around in secret like the cowardly slime they are.
It’s possible, though not proven, that the defining event of my life, the one that sent it sharply off on what shall I say a hitherto unforeseen trajectory:
INTERESTING, THOSE TRIPS TO MOSCOW
Well, they were, of course, quite fascinating, but I was thinking more of something akin to something out of Tolkien when a stone carelessly dropped in a pool disturbs something at the bottom of the pool better left sleeping. Theory Number 927 concerning the Perils of Pauline ponders the existence of some rotting corpse who is or at least was KGB and is still fighting an old, cold war. Much would depend on how much in the bright sunlit uplands of perestroika the Soviet authorities bothered to find out about lickle British research assistants. Probably not a lot, in which case another one bites the dust. I think of all these things. There is of course absolutely no reason to believe that agents of the USSR overnight became converted to the American Way. It walks like a duck. It quacks like a duck. It is not an unreasonable supposition that it is a duck.
Who’s afraid of the Kig Gad Bolf, the Kig Gad Bolf,the Kig Gad Bolf… The Kig Gad Bolf is a species of mountain troll, like all sentient species capable of mental growth (though slowly), and here plays essentially the role of that literary standard the mad relation in the attic, about whom we do not like to be reminded, especially since his or her mere existence is so defining a feature in our lives. Naturally there are those who say the Kig Gad Bolf never existed, is a fairytale to frighten children.
One really does not go around jumping to the conclusion one is being assaulted by the KGB. One does jump to the conclusion that, of those who might know that pushing heavy trolleys could have damaged one’s spinal fusion, rheumatologists and rheumatological nurses are higher on the list than most.
And the first time it’s chance, the second time it’s coincidence and the third time it’s enemy action. The third time wasn’t the new job. The third time was when I said the last time I did two jobs so other people could do half a job I ended up on a drip in the Brompton and I wasn’t going down that road again.
The point really is not who was or is or might be KGB, or who’s an enemy of democracy, the point is that you’re all a huge mad sick joke, a bunch of raving lunatics denying reality. Isn’t it.
Those old enough to have already achieved success in their chosen professions before the collapse of the USSR are by no means senile today. So how many Soviet sympathizers are there in the rafters? Spare me the freaking crap that such people never existed or if they did were instantly identifiable by having three heads, horns and forked tails. I’m related to people who thought the USSR was kewl, and hey, they were just ordinary guys and girls, which brings us to the real point: people who were and are open about their sympathies weren’t and aren’t the problem. Are they, Moley?
You can go round in circles for a long time before you recognize that a traitor does not have to be paid by a foreign power but merely has to be toiling valiantly to destroy a free society.
A woman after my own heart: Dr Terri Murray:
Social conservatives also exploited the language of civil rights to roll back actual civil rights advancements, such as when a November 1996 California anti-affirmative action initiative, Proposition 209, was misleadingly titled the "California Civil Rights Initiative' (CCRI). Many other far right organisations used similarly misleading language and labels and distorted statistics to sell their regressive politics to a liberal public.
In 2016 and 2017 I began to notice that here in the UK a host of neologisms were being introduced into the political discourse or old terms were being resurrected with completely new referents. Newspeak terms such as 'Islamophobia' were going mainstream. And yet so many of these terms seemed to contain within them unstated assumptions or conclusions that had not been argued for, so that once you treated the words as meaningful, you had already conceded the point.
This peremptory use of words to beg important questions frightened me, because I saw how ill-prepared young liberals were to analyse the many rhetorical ploys and fallacies being flung at them. Because of my background as a teacher of critical reasoning I was able to recognise many of the fallacies being deployed and felt that I could offer the younger generation of liberals some useful analytical tools, but my attempts to cope with the onslaught of misleading language and political posturing left me feeling that I was playing a very intense game of intellectual whack-a-mole. The sheer scale of misleading political spin was truly epic and reminded me of the United States military strategy when invading Iraq, which it called 'shock and awe'. The aim is to paralyse the opponent by bombarding them with such a massive, sustained attack that they will have neither the time nor equanimity to respond.
It seemed to me that so much of what was being peddled as liberal, left-wing policy was in fact eroding key aspects of liberal political philosophy while simultaneously giving inordinate cultural cache to religious conservatives. Again, my background in teaching political ideologies allowed me to discern inconsistencies between the appealing 'liberal' labelling and the regressive contents of these new political 'products'.
The primacy of the individual and the protection of her civil rights was giving way to communitarianism and collectivist social arrangements, which give more importance to social hierarchies that constrain individuals to a subordinate status vis-à-vis cultural traditions and customs. This agenda, however, sounded nice when described as "religious freedom" or "multiculturalism". Where self-appointed community representatives speak on behalf of "the community" as a whole, however, the type of cultural imperialism of which 'the West' stands accused is not avoided but perpetuated and officially sanctioned by Western governments, while also being immunised from criticism. In Britain, many leadership roles from the so-called 'Muslim community' are assumed by ultra-conservative Salafis who do not represent Britain's large secular Muslim constituency but drown its voices.
Tolerance for intellectual dissent and diversity of opinion on moral and social norms was replaced by a totalitarian state-sponsored demand for 'diversity' that replaced the neutral state with a top-down demand to show deference and positive esteem for difference (from the West), with any refusal to do so punished as a thought crime. The new meaning of 'diversity' was the obligatory divergence from Western liberalism and its secularism and a unilateral, rather than reciprocal, demand for tolerance, with each intolerant action against Western targets followed by apologetics explaining why all acts of terror were the inevitable consequence of legitimate grievances against the West and its imperialism.
Moral relativists disseminated the view that moral beliefs that respect self-determination and authoritarian, theocratic or fundamentalist ideologies that do not, are equally legitimate value systems. They rejected 'Western' understandings of ethics and human rights, claiming that there can be no "master discourse" on such matters, while simultaneously assuming that their relativist view on the matter is correct, or at least morally superior to that of their 'Eurocentric' opponents. Colonialism is itself treated as an objective moral evil to the extent that former colonial powers and their heirs should experience guilt and shame, irrespective of their cultural positioning or traditions. Yet this expectation of guilt implies the very kind of objective morality that relativists and pluralists reject and deem impossible.
What if a ship's planks were replaced one at a time while the ship continued to sail? The Ancient Greek philosophers used this hypothetical (they called it the ship of Theseus) to consider whether the new vessel, with an entirely new set of planks, would be the same ship. If the planks substituted for the originals were materially identical in size, shape and type of wood then it seems fair to say that the new ship, while not identical to its predecessor, would still be 'the same make' of ship.
If we use this metaphor to contemplate a political system that replaces all of its core values ('planks') with entirely new 'materials' (principles), then we cannot be talking about the same political system. This is what I believe is currently happening to political liberalism. While many well-meaning and ostensibly 'left-wing' activists fly the prestigious colours of the liberal flag at every port, their Titanic is a ghost of the vessel that set sail in the second half of the 18th century.
https://www.secularism.org.uk/opinion/2018/12/relativism-is-undermining-liberalism-from-within
And here is a graphic of diversity. If you have anything whatever going on between your ears, you may be able to work out that the perspectives here presented have in common they are displeasing to the more orthodox members of the Abrahamic faiths. From which, had you anything going on between the ears, you would conclude that those more orthodox members of the Abrahamic faiths have a few problems. But of course if you concluded that you would stop sucking their cocks, and that would never do.
With love from Sussex, still one of the most resolutely pagan parts of England. Tell you what, Boden, have an adventure, go to Chanctonbury Ring in the middle of the night.
https://www.philipcarr-gomm.com/essay/hidden-magic-sussex-way-working-anyplace/
http://www.sussexarch.org.uk/saaf/index.html
Actually, Sussex has a brutish, pagan past. It was the last Saxon county to be converted to Christianity. No one even tried until St Wilfrid in the 680’s, and the new religion remained unpopular in the county for centuries to come (laws to stamp out paganism were still being passed by William the Conqueror). The area’s unsavoury reputation persisted until at least the 16th century. Escaped criminals, highwaymen and general undesirables used the vast forests that covered the Weald as a hide out before Tudor and Stuart militarization unleashed a programme of savage deforestation; the trees were felled to smelt iron and build ships. From the late 18th century, Brighton became a fashionable spa town, thanks to the patronage of the Prince Regent (later George IV). Catholicism in the county was always weak, and non-conformism never as strong as the Church of England. These days Sussex is rich, protestant and respectable. But beneath this polite veneer the old gods still writhe.

But of course:
PANTHER -> Site news -> 'England is a bad country for gods.' A Guide for Mr Blair
by Ysabel Howard - Sunday, 2 October 2011, 07:05 PM
First posted 28th March 2007
No, not that kind of a Guide! Welcome, o overseas readers, to Britain, Land of Baden-Powell, Bath Olivers (kind of biscuit), Brighton Rock (kind of candy) and Byron, but alas Blair, and consequently the Civil Contingencies Bill, the Legislative and Regulatory Reform Bill, the abandoning of habeas corpus and repeated attempts to criminalize the derision of religion.
Some secularists use the term 'sky-fairy' to describe God, but it's not really a very evocative or accurate term. Whether we're talking about the Great Psychotic or the Perfect Dad there's surely nothing fairy-like about him.
"...Besides, what you call them are made-up things the People of the Hills have never heard of - little buzzflies with butterfly wings and gauze petticoats, and shiny stars in their hair, and a wand like a school-teacher’s cane for punishing bad boys and rewarding good ones...Can you wonder the People of the Hills don’t care to be confused with that painty-winged, wand-waving, sugar-and-shake-your-head set of impostors?"
Rudyard Kipling, Puck of Pook’s Hill, 1906
"The fact is they began as Gods...England is a bad country for Gods...They were a stiff-necked, extravagant set of idols, the Old Things...Men don’t like being sacrificed at the best of times; they don’t even like sacrificing their farm-horses. After a while men simply left the Old Things alone and the roofs of their temples fell in, and the Old Things had to scuttle out and pick up a living as best they could...I remember one Goddess called Belisama. She became a common wet water-spirit somewhere in Lancashire.".
Ibid.
Ah, an ancestor of mine, perhaps. Religions more ancient than the monotheisms were more relaxed about the human-god divide. Emperors could be or become gods.
So we have the concept that each human is 'God', is capable of self-realization, which the churches attack widdershins by mewling about how the individual is God in modern society, and to which Jesus came too close for the comfort of the orthodox, as in the kingdom of heaven is within.
One of the hallmarks of the Abrahamic faiths is the affirmation of the gulf between Man and God. This is of course why Ratzinger when Grand Inquisitor came down so heavily on De Mello and Dupuis and what one might call the hierarchical flaw in Christianity.
The notification lauds Dupuis for raising new questions and for his "attempt to remain within the limit of orthodoxy." Nevertheless, it cites "notable ambiguities or difficulties" in the book, and lists several points that theologians must uphold. Those points are:
Jesus Christ is the "sole and universal mediator of salvation for all humanity";
The revelation offered in Jesus offers everything necessary for salvation and has no need of completion by other religions;
Elements of truth in other religions derive from Jesus;
The Word of God and the Holy Spirit are not agents of salvation apart from Jesus Christ;
Different religions are not ways of salvation complementary to the Catholic church;
Followers of other religions are called to be part of the Catholic church;
In themselves, other religions are not means of salvation because they "contain omissions, insufficiencies and errors."
PANTHER: Revelation and religious supremacism
[That there are supremacist Muslims completely full of it is not open to question but it should not be forgotten that religious supremacism is not confined to Islam.]
The Vedas are the sacred scriptures of Hindus and the Upanishads are the culmination of the Vedic search for Truth or Reality. The Upanishads reveal the ultimate experience of God in which a person can declare ‘’I am Brahman," or " I am God," which is described as nondualistic (advaita) experience or ontological nonduality. The Vedic tradition reveals a progressive growth of divine-human relationship in four stages: relationship through poetry (Samhithas), relationship through ritual or sacrifices (brahmanas), relationship through meditations in the forest (aranyakas) and finally self-realization (Upanishads).
The Upanishads speak of four levels of consciousness, which again show the progressive growth in divine-human relationship: waking consciousness, dreaming consciousness, deep sleep consciousness and the thuriya, which means the fourth. In waking consciousness one identifies with one’s physical body and lives to satisfy one’s physical desires and ambitions. In the dreaming consciousness one identifies with ideals and ideal persons taken from the past or memory and tries to follow and imitate them. Here a person might say I am a Hindu, Christian, and Muslim etc. In the deep sleep one is freed from the personal and collective ideals and ideal persons of the past (time) and enters into the realm of originality and creativity (eternity) and becomes an original and creative person and is able to say, "I am." In the thuriya or the fourth state, one realizes one’s identity with God and says "I am Brahman." The utterance, "I am Brahman," may appear to be a statement of spiritual arrogance but in reality it is an experience of profound humility. In this state, only Brahman remains. To say that "I am God" does not mean that a human being becomes God but affirms that God is the only Reality. There are four or five mahavakyas connected to this ultimate experience: I am Brahman (ahambrahmasmi), you are that-Brahman (tatvamasi), Atman is Brahman (ayatmanbrahma), all this is Brahman (sarvametatbrahma) and Brahman is nondual (prajnanambrahma). These mahavakhyas are different ways of expressing the same advaitic experience. The Vedas should not be seen as systematic treatises of philosophy but as a collection of the various philosophical discoveries and experiences of the seekers of Truth or God.
Nonduality in the Vedic and Biblical traditions, John Martin
Non-duality and dualism are the polite terms in which to talk about this.
Jesus knew there was no separation from God.
JD Salinger: Franny and Zooey
It is an entertaining thought in the post-colonial world to think of all the Hindus, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Taoists who understood exactly where Jesus was at listening I hope not too patiently to the Christian missionaries talking out of their arses.
Somewhere or other I recently saw the British blamed for the bloodshed following Partition, in the sort of place where the British are blamed for everything, whether we did it or not. I do somewhat suggest that the gulf between Hindu and Muslim is somewhat deeper, running through all human thought on the subject as it does, than what some former Viceroy did.
I said, don’t put all the stars out, but you will insist, that darkness cover the face of the earth, in your dreams at least. To take just one example, I don’t see NASA going anywhere soon, or indeed MIT, or indeed the Internet. I really do not think you will extinguish the millions – billions – of books that inform the world, just cavort and be violent and disgusting and tedious faced with education.
The image below is both the oldest and the youngest picture every taken. It is the oldest because it has taken the light nearly 14 billion years to reach us. And it is the youngest because it is a snapshot of our newborn universe, long before the first stars and galaxies formed. The bright patterns show clumps of simple matter that will eventually form stars and galaxies. This is as far as we can see into the universe. It is time, not space, which limits our view. Beyond a certain distance, light hasn't had time to reach us yet. How Big is our Universe
To take a trip through the visible universe and there are many excellent ones on the Web is (perhaps) to see the mind of God. We don’t know. We haven’t a clue. We make up our own minds.
Until key religious figures come to terms with the cosmos, with astrophysics, with quantum theory, until the language of multiverse theory is as familiar to them as New Testament Greek, they are not so to speak on the same planet as the rest of us.
Yes. Yes, you are ridiculous.
Why is this farce being played out throughout the western world? Historians will eventually have a heyday with that one.
