Yes, it's Operation Mindfuck!
The pressing reason for kicking medicine and other biological sciences out of the university is of course the abolition of mind. If you do not believe mind exists, it's hard to see what purpose you have in an institution dedicated to training it: the door is over there.
All those years in Medical School being told he shares 98% of his DNA with the chimpanzee have taken their toll on Doc Hollowhead. Knowing a little about chimps, he now thinks he knows everything about human beings. Fruit-flies are best, of course. Fruit-flies are a sure-fire guide. He looked around anxiously. Fruit-flies were reassuring, but alas there were none to be seen.
He therefore behaves like an ape. A bigger monkey has beaten his chest. Bigger monkey = power. Power = can hurt little monkey. Little monkey fwightened. Fear shuts down human mind. Being also human little monkey hastily attributes probity, rationality, goodness to bigger monkey. Bigger monkey can't possibly be lying or otherwise talking out of his arse. No need for debate. No need to check facts. Reality is whatever a bigger more powerful baboon says it is. What most people recognize about authority, namely its capacity to talk out of its arse, is lost on Doc who of course knows everything about human beings, being conversant with the DNA of the chimp.
There came the Enlightenment. What bloody garbage is this? they cried. Authority is a fellow-human. He may be right. He may be wrong. Fact and reason are the determinants. If he or she desires to exert force over you, he or she must give valid reason.
The unmitigated evil of orthodox religion is of course an equivalent reductionism: it reduces humans to helpless gibbering apes, terrorizes them into fearing thought and langugage. When a representative of the Pink Hippo speaks, there is instant suspension of all rational processes, all speech, instant suspension of all decency, all morality, because what the worshippers are taught is to be evil on command.
There is no accommodation with the suspension of reason, the suspension of morality. It's generally called Nazism or Stalinism. It is apparently also the coming thing. There is a manufactured hysteria concerning language and thought. We are supposed to be chimpanzees. We are not supposed to be able to deal with words and ideas. We are supposed to react like hysterical inadequates faced with words and ideas we do not like. We are not supposed either to be able to think or to be capable of accepting that others think.
We may say - what may we say? Perhaps that fact is unyielding, absolute, while the context of fact, comprehension of the reality of which it is an aspect, may change: apples do not cease to fall downwards because aspects of Newton's physics have been surpassed, nor does the horizon vanish because we now know it is not the rim of the world.
Like the religious zombie, the medical zombie functions intellectually working within a given frame of reference, regards it as frightening, evil and perhaps impossible to smash through the walls of this cage, question the frame of reference. Propositions are not considered objectively, on their merits if any, but regarded as good or evil, sane or mad, depending on whether or not they mesh with the assumptions that constitute the walls of the cage.
Monkey see, monkey touch, monkey feel. The biologist monkey is desperately ill at ease with things he cannot put in a test-tube. The whole of human intellectual history is of course contained thereout.
As it is irreligious to disparage the versions of reality given in holy books, so it is unscientific to disparage a reality confined to a test-tube. The secret of religion, as of Stalinism and Nazism, is to satisfy monkey, who is also human, with explanation for what he sees, touches, feels. Monkey is also human: monkey has mind, whether he likes it or not. Monkey imagines the world and is content, living in an imagined reality and screaming when actual reality intrudes. What was a satisfactory explanation to those living hundreds of years ago is not nor is likely to be satisfactory to us with a multiplicity of referents to which to compare the dream. Nonetheless, it is demanded of us we share the fantasy.
Freedom and democracy demand humans be human, accept the reality, the individuality of other humans, be capable of thought, be capable of choice, be capable of decency towards other humans.
We are in a dangerous and evil age when science and religion, despite the much vaunted conflict between the two, join forces to destroy the right to be human. What is real, what is true has no meaning to the inner monkey.
Extracts from The Matter of Britain©2005:
On no account when turning the universities over to those who read moving their lips, proclaiming the uselessness of the study of mediaeval history and demanding that all must be made new, should we recall Mao’s Cultural Revolution.
We may say that Hitler's bias was towards bodies to whose DNA he objected and Stalin's towards bodies to whose minds he objected. There was of course overlap, Hitler killing dissidents and Stalin killing Jews. People are disparate, irregular. They lack uniformity. They are unequal. They have therefore no place in the Grand Plan and must be tidied.
A head monkey is more scientifically an alpha baboon, a reference to the primate pecking-order that is the genetic imperative until transcended. It is fundamental to the lower castes of religion, as it is to communism and fascism, that the individual is helpless. God gives courage and strength, like a sort of divine multi-vitamin. Only collective action can save us from whatever is supposed to be assaulting us. Head monkeys need people helpless. In response to oppression, a multitude of the oppressed or supposedly so respond, "Yah boo, my head monkey's better than your head monkey. It is I who should be doing the oppressing."
Democracy is or should be the anarchy of individualism. Democracy is radicalism. Democracy is a permanent threat to power. Democracy says, no, the opinion of a head monkey is not a valid criterion. Democracy makes reference to criteria outside the subjective viewpoint of a head monkey - fact, reason, principle. The tendency of male apes to establish within it their little primate hierarchies takes nothing from the capacity of democracy to undermine those hierarchies.
The true enemy of the Program was not any individual, any sect, but that terrifying intangible, the free mind.
Now we are closer to what is going on in Dez’s life. Biology has abolished mind. We are all hairless chimps and over-riding the hard wiring is impossible because there is nothing to over-ride it with. If you are desperate to annul the threat from someone who thinks the monkey model a load of nonsense, you smear her as a racist. Sub-plots are provided by Catholic and Muslim bigots who think, since they have no concept of Temple of Reason and all that, that deference to their superstitious drivel is required.
Most of a shoal will find reasons to justify its knee-jerk grovel to power, mustn't rock the boat, brought it all on himself, none of my business, pointless to argue, will take no responsibility for the society in which it dwells and so gets the squid it deserves. If the squid loses, the shoal has blood on its hands and egg on its face. This was the dilemma of post-war Germany, the Hitler-squid not expected to have lost. The shoal thus has a vested interest in the victory of the squid. The squid cannot cope with a refusal to accept its frame of reference. The squid expects fear and demands attention – though not the devoted attention it gets here. Democracy was invented to counter the squid; most potently, individual liberty outfaces it. The squid invented fascism and communism to counter democracy. The squid had never been keen on mind, not least because if, oh horror of horrors, people were left to read what they like and say what they like, they might have discovered the squid was inessential to their lives. Fortunately, biology came along and proclaimed mind didn't exist.
If mind does not exist, then democracy is unnecessary. Thus the Program.
Another conspiracy theory! you mutter gleefully. Good, good, you are learning. A swarm of tiny black helicopters with gauze wings buzz angrily against the windows of Senate House. Reductionists, obsessed equally with chimps and with religion, slaver as readily as any good God-fearin' fundy. Humans are not different. Mind is Christian superstition, dependent on the concept of a personal God. What an external god has to do with intellect and imagination is not explained. You can tell these are not educated people. But fi! we are but tools of the Illuminati intent on creating slaves to Voltaire.
The abolition of mind ends history, because history is an artefact of mind. The human experiment is over, apart from those sad deluded creatures who persist in reaching for the stars, and we have asylums for them. Die Weisse Rose describes a small group of German students who said no. They died of course. What shall we do? Light a candle, plant a tree? Forget complicity, grant ourselves absolution. We don't want no trouble here.
The reductionist stares myopically at the world and fumbles for the territorial imperatives of the fruit-fly to guide his or her understanding. If a chimp can't do it, it's a Christian superstition. The individual characteristics of honesty, reliability, intellect, verbal dexterity are annulled by biological equality. They are illusion, superstition. Only grubbing around on the forest-floor is real. Words cause friction, words impede the New World Order. The rudiments of language are required only for appeasement displays and the chest-beating of the head monkey.
Where there is no human capacity to redo the wiring, there is no liberty. Where there is no liberty, there is no responsibility - if you are not free to choose you cannot fairly be held to account for your actions. Scientific fundies deconstruct the West with their 'practical man's' contempt for all that makes us human. Can you synthesize a word? Can you grow an idea? Arf, arf, we are all good practical men here. Man is the tool-making ape. Education consists in learning to wield tools, a technical training. No training of the mind can take place because the mind does not exist. Since mind doesn't exist, 6000 years of its coping with the illusorily complex business of being human are meaningless. The only reality is the PPO and the particular head of your monkey-troop, the god meme being a particular threat. (Since the primate genetic reflex shuts off questioning the head monkey, s/he becomes endowed with qualities such as omniscience, omnipotence, goodness - hence of course the god meme itself.) Since mind etc etc, the new high priests are endowed with understanding of the entirety of the human condition via a grasp of cell biology. Those who have received a technical training are superior to those who can think, because of course learning to think, to analyse arguments, doesn't actually exist. There are no internal differences between individuals in ability (or volition, desire to learn). Some have had tool-wielding pasted onto their exteriors, others not.
To our new professionals, therefore, aggressively anti-intellectual, ignorant of history and ideas, semi-literate, unable to develop or handle argument, only might is right. They are at once thuggish and vulnerable to any demagogue proffering 'the real truth': the tenets of liberal democracy are meaningless to them. They want good jobs. That is laudable, but why should a vocational training certificate be called a degree? Mind stands in the way of slavery and so it had to go, as did the not-so-traditional university, the university of the Enlightenment as a citadel of mind and free thought.
Naturally decision-making passed by accident into the hands of ignorant semi-literates programmed to beat up any supposed fascist who accurately describes them. We come to the central questions here.
How does one judge a conspiracy theory? To reject the notion of a plot is to eyeball the crippling stupidity of which the species is capable. How stupid must one accept people are in order to acquit them? When is it reasonable to say this person is not educationally sub-normal and is therefore guilty of malice aforethought? 'This is not an assault.' Whether at Waco or the former Polytechnic of South Grimeweed, what is the nature of the stupidity displayed? It is a lack of imagination.
Of the many participants in the dismantling of British education, did any act in recognition that, in the hope that their conduct would undermine and eventually terminate democracy? To scream no! is to assert that the open society has no enemies, which is equally garbage.
What is essentially going on today is an attack by both Right and Left on the values of the Enlightenment. Probably the most important intellectual event in the history of the world, freeing humans to function mentally in worlds without god or without the version of a god or gods demanded by religious hierarchies wielding secular power, specifically the application of reason to the claims of religion and specifically the reaching of the conclusion ‘load of sickies’, is to be abandoned because the sickies don’t like it.
The Enlightenment is, by virtue of being ‘godless’ (actually the thinkers of the eighteenth century were mostly Deist – translate as by virtue of undermining the authority of the Roman Catholic Church), by virtue of upholding reason, liberty and secular government, by virtue of giving rise to the Constitution of the United States of America, supposed to have led to Hitler and Stalin. Actually the values of the Roman Catholic Church and for that matter the Russian Orthodox Church, their authoritarianism and consequent prizing of mindless obedience, their insistence on a single Truth that may not be questioned, their contempt for reason and liberty and the individual, led to Hitler and Stalin. We’re all supposed to be horrified at what that dreadful godlessness led to and be running back to the safety of the arms of Mother Church who will deliver us from evil, not to mention sex ‘n’ drugs ‘n’ rock ‘n’ roll.
How holding it self-evident that all men are created equal and endowed with certain inalienable rights, such as life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, how the First Amendment to the United States Constitution (Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech) and the Second Amendment (the right to bear arms) led to Auschwitz and Siberia, the burning of the books and defenceless people being herded into cattle-trucks goes unexplained.
Mr Bleagh’s government is supposedly ‘progressive and modern’. In the contempt for the trained mind implicit in its determination to turn the universities into vocational training schools where one acquires skills to benefit the economy, in the contempt for ‘us the people’ implicit in curtailment of individual liberties – implicit in the insolence of Mr Hain’s rejection of a referendum – it heralds a new Age of Unreason, where all are deferential, respectful and silent.
Even as the student revolutionaries mounted the barricades, the Soviet tanks rolled into Czechoslovakia. The superannuated student rebels now in power seem to think no-one noticed. They do not notice that there was a revolution in the Sixties and Seventies leaving them washed up with the tide, possibly even consigned to the dustbin of history, because they think they were the revolution and indeed many a right-winger is convinced this was so, that all that passed in those years was Marxist-inspired. In fact a good half of it had entirely other roots, the democratic tradition and Christianity. That the Establishment, the Republican Party, the Conservative Party were insufficiently versed in the history of democracy to grasp that many a hippy-type merely unconsciously echoed Tom Paine in his or her response to organized religion, concluding that ‘all you need is love’, that they were unable to grasp that it follows from the proposition ‘all men are created equal and endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights, among these life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness’ that people will ask, ‘Just all white men?’ and ‘What about all women?’ and seek to effect a more genuinely democratic and free society has enabled Leftists to define the shape of the ball-park. Democracy is the most radical and so the most dangerous animal of all. Socialism merely creates new masters.
Many British Catholics are as deviant from Vatican orthodoxy as I from Labour orthodoxy. Despite the fixations of the hierarchies, organizations such as the Roman Catholic Church or the Labour Party are greater than the Party line and one is a Catholic, one is Labour, no matter how deviant from orthodoxy, how disgraceful one’s life in the eyes of those at the top. The issue remains the ghastliness of what one is supposed to be.
To say ‘religion’ must be protected is to say that people who may be intellectually and morally on the level of the average concentration-camp guard merit legal protection. It is also to say that particular kinds of irrationality and general derangement must be treated as sanity.
‘God said’ is the ultimate control-mechanism, the demand to be taken seriously. It’s not just me who’s saying this, right, it’s God, you can’t argue with God. God might have said. God might even exist.
Religion tells us to suspend rational processes. The festering heart of it is that independent mental activity is considered synonymous with self, to assert the existence of a functioning mind, to have one’s own views not those dictated by another, supposedly speaking on behalf of the God person, to be human, is self-will and rebellion.
Nothing shows up fixed ideas of the female like suggesting God is a she. If God can be a he, why shouldn't God be a she? In man's image and likeness, oh yes, the qualities perceived as belonging to great men writ large, written by men for men, by men who wanted to improve their societies, had vision, but could not escape the prejudices of their time. Hence the contradictions. Or God requires an editor.
The Sophia is or is not God the Mother, or in fact, to follow the argument which appears to be about whether she is co-equal with the Logos (Christ), God the Daughter. While it is unlikely that feminist theology will come to dominate the Church of Rome, it exists as an academic discipline. It is also of course grossly offensive to the orthodox and vulnerable to resurgent patriarchy. Genuine diversity is threatened by what amount to cries that we must not offend the orthodox minorities, cries that would be inconceivable in the C21st, post-Voltaire, post-Marx, post-Woodstock, if it were not that they are actually happening.
Authority is humanity’s greatest scam. Once something is made a law, a regulation, regardless of how bone-headed, pin-brained, vicious, twisted, it is, the person who fails to obey is wrong-footed, A Bad Person, cast into the outer darkness, when the actual criminals are the law-makers. Of the sweet innocent belief that law-makers cannot be stupid or make laws inimical to liberty and democracy I shall say nothing or I shall laugh too much. The absurd human ape thinks that because it issues an instruction or an order the smaller human ape will mindlessly obey. The zillion or so other responses available to human humans are alien to it. The human ape does not know where ‘I’ ends and someone else begins but thinks itself divinely endowed to tell others what to do and how to be. The human ape understands only power and hierarchy. Human humans are guided by fact, reason and love.
Once force has been initiated, no matter how much they scream that Might isn’t Right, it’s not OK to use force against people with whom you disagree, they have opened the door to force being used against them. Harvey Wheeler argues that Anglo-American democracy upholds the constitutionality of civil disobedience., for instance when the law is wholly corrupt, an extension of Might is Right, a sledge-hammer to smash dissent.
First they came for the women. I was not a woman. I did nothing. An interesting twist on Niemoller’s famous words. Yo, sisters, just remember we are not a numerical minority. In fact, together with gays, we are a majority. Together with gays, we must understand that appeasing faith is not the path to pluralism and diversity but the path to oppression. We will shut the fuck up about the women-haters and gay-bashers, the sexual neurotics who believe bare flesh is a sin, the fascists who believe in Kirche, Küche, Kinder. We shall on no account explore religion or ask why their god is male. We shall do and be what we are told and accept the penalties of revolt because the apostles of a few ancient texts absolutely must not be offended, outraged, nauseated, inflamed, made furious, bugger the rest of us, so to speak.
Kept wordless. There are steps that may be taken when called an inbred troll, a black poodle, honourless. Woe to the trolls in bread, for they are sandwiched. And to their kin, the poodles in bread, for they shall make your hair curl; woe to the on aweless ones, for aweless is one the most powerful drugs in the therapeutic armamentarium against Operation Mindfuck. You are so helpless you are defined by words on a page?
You are helpless. You have been brought up to be helpless in order that you will whine.
Inner freedom, whether in Zen, the Tao or the mystic traditions of the monotheisms, is recognized as liberation from illusion, imagined mind-constructs of reality. This is thought remote from real life, the notion of an ‘invisible reality’ scoffed at, but our individuality is an invisible reality - deeply invisible to those who take one look at your exterior, black, Jew, Arab, female, beggar, train-driver and magically derive what you are, how you feel, what you think, and most critically of what you may be capable, thereby.
The racist, the sexist, the hater of homosexuals exists entirely in his or her mind-constructs. Confident expression of what women, all women, were innately incapable of or unfit for kept us out of Parliament, out of the polling-booths and out of the universities, out of the professions until uncomfortably recently. Equally confident generalizations were applied to ‘the poor’. The male poor nonetheless acquired basic rights rather before the female poor.
Only liberty pulled down imagined truth. Democracy, by upholding individual liberty, enables people to achieve their full potential, to stretch their hearts and minds to the utmost of their ability. Liberty allows individuals to escape from the imagined realities imposed by societies and forces reality upon those who govern.
Mental advance – spiritual maturity - consists in moving from fear to love, not exactly an alien modern idea. Imperfect love will do. It consists in the exercise of hearts and minds.
1. Naturally this may lead to places obnoxious to those in mental cages
2. ‘Love and do what thou wilt.’. You will not be a menace to society if you fully exercise your heart and mind. You will not mug, murder, rape, maim. You will, however, be an appalling threat to the less evolved.
The Khatmandu Trail, visions of zonked-out hippies in phoney ashrams, denigrates the impact, the continuing impact, of both eastern spirituality and the higher reaches of the monotheisms, hitherto suppressed by the orthodox but freely available in C21st bookshops and on the Web, and their meshing with Western liberal thought, on those who are reasonably together or trying to be so.
Perception is conditioned from birth onward as the small and screaming I seeks to deal with the world. Internal realities are formed of what people are, what situations means – mind-patterns, concepts of ‘I’ and ‘you’ and ‘I’ in relation to ‘you’ - stereotypes at the most elementary level. All irtubi are vicious, and so, if I should meet an irtubi, he or she will attempt to injure me. If that is my conviction and I meet a charming, courteous, irtubi, I conclude he or she is feigning pleasantness, suspect him or her of setting some trap for me. Conflict is set up when experience of people, situations – external reality – fails to conform to one’s internal reality. It may be repressed. Alternatively one may make minimal adjustment to the head-set. The mind is very flexible in this respect. All irtubi are vicious. My friend is irtubi. My friend is not vicious. He is the exception that proves the rule – a peculiarly meaningless expression. The brain’s attempts to order the world, order the input, have resulted in false conclusions. The brain has sought to protect itself from what is there. What is there may hurt. We talk freely of people feeling threatened. There is no physical danger. The rickety concepts on which the ‘I’, the self-image, is based are under attack. It may seem strange to say it is essential to personality that one believe for instance that all irtubi are vicious. Nonetheless, the self, the sense of self, may be made up of similar deeply held convictions, and when one foundation-stone is in danger of being pulled away one fears for the whole building.
Conditioning is probably best described as learning things which may not be real. Learning that steam from a kettle scalds is learning something based in reality. Learning that you put milk in the cup first or first pour the tea is not (though tea-fiends will doubtless argue with that). Conditioning is learning responses, learning what you think things or situations mean because they’re what parents or peers tell you they mean. It is learning how things are, who and what you are, how you relate to other people. While it operates just as formidably in some regards in cosmopolitan societies, it is most obvious in closed societies where everyone around you subscribes to a particular creed. Unconscious attitudes are surprisingly enough those imbibed and internalized unconsciously. Detox is finding out what is reality-based.
The unconscious thinker does not think out his or her opinions, his or her assumptions, prejudices, preconceptions. They may be those of his or her parents, religious leaders or peers. He or she has internalized versions of reality that provoke his or her responses. He or she does not know why he or she thinks what he or she thinks or reacts as he or she does, only that it is obviously right, that 'everybody knows'. In this he or she has bolstered himself or herself by reading only newspapers that echo his or her opinion, mixing only with like-minded people. At a more sophisticated level, he or she may have formulated his or her own views starting from the unexamined views of others. This is why Socrates is reported to have said the unexamined life is not worth living: it is not, to use a fave word on the Left, authentic; this is also why for Socrates and Zen alike the first step to wisdom is knowing you do not know. The Left pretends to have discovered conditioning, aka unconscious attitudes, and twitters about it like a pesky kid who’s discovered water is wet.
The Tao is simply a plan of consciousness – being human, a user’s guide – the stairway that turns out to lead to ‘heaven‘. Consequently it is as old as people or as the universe, if you prefer. You can look at people, see what people (all different sorts of people) have said about being people, or you can brandish a single book and say this is people (and if people aren’t this, they must be made this). Even better, you can then get the leaders of the (ha!) ‘free world’ to stand behind the special knowledge of people only your book can give and believe in your ‘moral authority’.
To say none of this has anything to do with religion is to say, categorically, none of this posits a God person, or any of the wagon-load of rites, rituals, observances, prohibitions with which the God person has been surrounded. a revelation or anything else supernatural. Since the majority of humans who ever lived have happened to live in a society in which religion was dominant, they found out about love in a theological context. The woman who gives up a promising career to care full-time for a severely mentally handicapped child, the man or woman who in war risks his or her own live to save a comrade does not – does not necessarily – do these things because he or she believes them the will of a Superman in the sky.
What is called love enables escape from self toward the reality of another as separate, a discrete autonomous being endowed with equal rights.
The most orthodox, the most hidebound, the most separatist, the most full of it and convinced they alone have truth and are possessed of the right to push others around are the least spiritually evolved.
Into the world of the C21st in which this is recognized they are attempting to impose legal constraints on derision of the orthodox, the hidebound, the separatist, the full of it, the Troof merchants.
Equal rights derive from our common humanity. I walk down the street unimpeded. You walk down the street unimpeded. I wear what I like. You wear what you like. I say what I like. You say what you like. Human history is a footnote to difficulty with these simple notions.
For some the order of the day is I shall say what I want to say, what I think, what I feel. You will say only what I permit you, what does not offend me, or worse, cause me to think or question. You will speak and write within my frame of reference and in terms acceptable to me. My discomfiture – my self – is of greater importance than another's right to speak. ‘I’ is the centre of the universe, the measure of all things. If ‘I’ finds something offensive, it may not exist. If you think the Bible is a sacred text, I must express myself in terms you consider suitable to discussing a sacred text. Why on earth should I? is a question ill-understood by the hierarchical mind. Why might you not express yourself in the frame of reference set by me? The Thought-Policeman’s ego, the vapid assumption of superiority, the right to tell others how to be, the ‘psychology of the individual’ as Jeeves would have put it, are too little debated, on the grounds they constitute personal attack and that is not intellectually valid. Argument ad hominem attacks the person in order to discredit what he says: if he is shown to have lied in the past, that is supposed to discredit his word on this occasion. It is distinct from attacking the person because what he says shows he is a creep, and an irrational creep at that .
The world's ideologies divide into cultures of the outside and cultures of the inside. A culture of the outside holds that the individual is moulded by the external world and so is both victim and slave - to environment, to fellow-humans, to self - is a hollow gourd or empty shell to be filled with the Beloved Leader's version of reality. Where no determined State attempts at brain-washing occur, the hollow gourd is merely a passive recipient of fate, a creature of instinct, to whom responsibility is meaningless. A culture of the inside holds that the individual has a central processing unit (CPU) otherwise known as mind that analyses the external world and forms himself or herself and so his or her own views from the results of this analysis, is capable of choice. Where there is no CPU, nothing inside to form oneself with, the opinions and reactions of others are defining and must therefore be controlled or censored. This underpins Orwell's 'Freedom is Slavery' and Marcuse's 'repressive tolerance'. You have no means of handling words that displease you. They therefore oppress you.
This has implications that have wholly corroded society. Firstly there is the victim culture. Since nothing is your fault, you are the product of socio-economic forces, it is wrong to deride, criticize, censure, abuse you if you behave like a piece of vomit. Secondly, what others see as intellectual corruption and social engineering is not understood as wrong – it’s only the socio-economic circumstances into which you were born that prevented you excelling academically, everyone is just as bright as everyone else, and having failed five CSEs in no way indicates that you are not just as good as someone who achieved an Honours degree. Thirdly, the censorious proliferate.
The root of this is the Marxist-materialist religion of apeism. There were ten green bottles hanging on the wall and if one green bottle should accidentally fall…Actually there were seven green bottles. Art, literature, language, history, philosophy, liberty and theology, and holding them on the wall was mind. Then one day behind the useful idiots a group of evil men removed the lynch-pin that there be no green bottles hanging on the wall and we all have to act like and think like and obey like intelligent chimps instead of being humans.
Liberty is a human concept and most of our problems with it stem from the primate elements in the brain. The most elementary of these evolutionary hang-ups is the primate pecking order. A larger more powerful ape beats his chest and otherwise suggests his displeasure and the unconscious thinker toes the line. Only might is right. The mental development of individual humans starts where physical evolution ends. Obsession with form, external appearance, is another evolutionary hang-up. As a chimp recoils at the shape of a snake, so racists and sexists respond to colour or gender. Elements on the Left are equally hypnotised by biology. Where individual characteristics such as honesty, integrity, intellect, application - qualities of mind - have been abandoned as 'elitist' or 'relative values', all that remains is the nonsense that the most insignificant of human attributes, gender and race, are defining.
Mind is supposed not to exist and recourse to fact and reason is rejected as elitist. The West is therefore supposed to lie defenceless in what is essentially a mind-game: mind, fact and reason do not stop existing because traitors say they do; the trick is persuade (by force or otherwise) the majority of people to a mind-set from which mind, fact and reason are absent. In particular they should not allude to the facts of democracy and civil liberties; since mind does not exist, the ability to make up one’s mind cannot exist, let alone the right to do so and, Homo sapiens sapiens being in its raw state before its mind has been kicked into working a self-centred little sod, people cannot be expected to consider another’s point of view and so accept another’s equal right to speak.
Manifestations of heart or mind transcending the hard wiring - ethical or intellectual standards - are dismissed as elitist, the benchmark being set by the Inner Ape. Standards of behaviour in public have been cast off as some tyrannical yoke imposed from without when they are what may be expected to arise naturally from within. A fit young man who is compos mentis might reasonably be expected to see the woman with two toddlers has a greater need for his seat than he.
We are all born squawly little hairless chimps. We are also all born with a mind and a capacity for love. We are all born with the capacity to over-ride the hard-wiring. We are not all born brilliant but we can still empathize and it is empathy with others that demands we give them equal rights.
Choice is an artefact of mind. If mind does not exist, then democracy is unnecessary. A rigid materialism lies at the root of the Left’s trampling on liberty. They don’t see it as something they despise. They see it as something that doesn’t exist. Freedom in leftist literature is defined in terms of economics. The Left is also of course hot on sexual freedom. Mental freedom comes nowhere.
Instead of looking at ‘human’ and forming their theory based on observation (the methodology of the humanities), they look at a molecule and decide what ‘human’ must be. Intellectually dishonest is pretending the only alternative position is religion. They call themselves humanists. I’m a humanist. They’re apeists.
Leftist educationalists have canonized
The naked ape’s terminal self-centredness which should not be corrected
The naked ape’s capacity to form delusional mind-constructs, which should not be tested against reality
In short there has been an assault on being human.
A generation has grown up or maybe two not educated to have any fixed points of reference, moral or intellectual, outside the self. They have never had their minds stretched or been made to clarify what they think and why they think it, test their views against fact and reason, which are meaningless to them, as are the separateness of others and of course the equal rights of others.
To suggest something awry with these generations, to require any moral or intellectual standards, to expect some minimum standard of conduct or performance is to be ‘elitist’ and subject to abuse and outrage. To indicate the source of the nonsense is to be dangerous.
If no-one may criticize the stupid, idle, illiterate, ignorant, vicious, sad, bigoted, incompetent who deny freedom of speech to others, the consequence is governance according to their lights. We approach therefore the world in which the only voices that may be heard are those of the stupid, ignorant, vicious, sad, bigoted, illiterate, idle, incompetent, self-important, power-crazed and merely mad who deny freedom of speech to others, for no-one may tell them to butt out, stop screwing up, go away and read up on what the hell they’re talking about before they open their mouths. The Official Lie is of course grounded in the notion that having your backside kicked will scar and traumatize you for life, that what you are is fixed, you are incapable of changing yourself but become what you are told you are if you weren’t it to start with, which you probably were.
If one round, red, smooth-skinned, soft and edible object constitutes ‘a tomato’, all such objects are tomatoes with the same biological properties and the same taste within a spectrum identified as tomato-ish – thus we learn and what we learn is that form is identified with essence. Similarly we may learn to be wary of any scorpion-shaped life-form. But that one dog snarls and lunges at strangers does not prove that all dogs behave thus. A poodle may be vicious and a Doberman a slobbering affectionate idiot. All the time we seek to make connections, arguing from the one to the many. The higher up the evolutionary tree are the beings to which we relate, the less effective form becomes as a manner of understanding the world, until we reach humans and it becomes useless. None of this hinders the racists, sexists, homophobes and socialists who see people in terms of classes. Fundamentalists do not like people to grow up. In place of the strange convictions about all blacks or Jews of the Christian fundy or all females of the Muslim fundy, Marx gives us his convictions about the ‘bourgeois’.
No matter how much your brain screams at you that all x are y, some x remain not-y, perhaps no x are y. There is rarely the possibility of dialogue with those who hold all x are y and therefore no x may be z, no woman has the qualities necessary to being a fighter pilot or a priest. They have a different starting-point. Some, having grasped the vicious imbecility of ‘all x are y’, of racism, homophobia, sexism, have replaced it with new improved super all x are y, no moral or intellectual differences between individuals may be allowed to exist suggesting one may in such ways be better than another. Indeed the world is simpler that way.
Words and ideas are the new kids on the block, the product of being something apart from a chimp. Belief in the magic power of the book is above all the mark of the illiterate.
Once upon a time a long long time ago a not very hairy little ape lay under a tree in a foetal crouch. If it had spoken modern English, it would have said, "It's doing me head in, mate." It had been landed with consciousness. Did it think, now I can conceive ultimate reality, create a theory of universals, write love-poetry, define good and evil, deny good and evil exist and even choose what I have for supper? Like heck it did. And the serpent whispered in its ear and said, "Obey!" Yes, through mindless obedience you can return to that state of primeval bliss in which there is no choice, where there is only one set of words defining the universe, hence the devotion of the chimp-brained for whom being human is too much of an effort, who is happy to see things not as they are but as he or she has been told they are, to One Book, one Truth.
The final polarity is between one word (one book, one truth) and many words, many books. Words and mind are threatening. They must be controlled. The would-be controllers would prefer the species wordless and mindless but since it isn't it should be rendered as good as. In short they are frightened of being human: the primate parts of the brain do not like being disturbed by words and ideas.
We do see the roots of the contempt for literacy, I trust, the hysteria evoked by the word illiterate, the contempt for the humanities. Chimps do not need an advanced grasp of language; the chimp world does not have history or philosophy or literature or require the capacity for independent thought. Sustained writing has no place in the world of the chimpanzee. Since everything in the chimp-world is fixed, books that change things are an impossibility.
Just think! A Britain in which no-one writes books! Especially critical ones. In which everyone is ignorant of history, philosophy, literature. Of course it’s not quite like that, but mentally they inhabit a monkey-world in which it is like that, which is one thing, and spreading this slime over the entire nation is apparently the goal of the Government, which is another.
We do see, I hope, that we are having a little Cultural Revolution whereby people do not need to know about history, philosophy, politics, literature, theology or any other aspect of being human, whereby it is mysteriously irrelevant to know there was a Reformation, an English Bill of Rights, a United States Constitution, an Enlightenment or a French Revolution, not to mention a Magna Carta, a Peasants‘ Revolt or indeed a place called Woodstock, where four thousand years of insights into being human of poets, philosophers and other writers are irrelevant.
The absence of love that is total self-centredness is what is causing the evident ills of our society today, not lack of faith or respect for authority. This is ‘soft’ and not amenable to legislation. There are no ‘quick fixes’ for changing how people view themselves and others. Reality dictates that when people are free to think it is inevitable some will arrive at conclusions diametrically opposed and hostile to those of others. What to love someone is not is to force what you want him or her to be on her or him, what you (your deluded mind-constructs of reality) demand he or she must be.
The Reformation was an expansion of thought beyond the entirely arbitrary limits set by the Vatican, as the Enlightenment and so the present day are expansions of thought beyond the bounds set by Christianity. Minds can go anywhere and where love and reason guide them the result is a vast improvement on anything before. Those in mental cages are going to have to grasp this.
